Some native Australian birds are good parents by human standards, other' leave a lot to be desired. The wattle bird is of the latter temperament.
It kicks its chicks out of the nest before they can fly, and watch from above as they go walkabout. This poor fellow went for a drink in a horse trough and nearly drowned. Its was on its last gasp when i fished it out. Of course it was very unimpressed by me saving its life... the noise it made! So I put it in a sheltered area and left it to its fait. That is the way of things in the Australian bush.
Those are some harsh parents... :s poor thing! Did it survive at least?

Hmm... I see. I do that too most of the times... even though death is a natural thing in living *the only certain thing we have for our lifes* it's something that still gets me to try not to think of... *not that I'm scared of it...just don't like it...*

Living in a forest with wild animals is a big deal. In Australia we had a big problem with animals that were introduced to the country by early settlers last century. We have to kill them to give our native animals a chance to survive. Often the native Australian animals cannot cope with feral cats and dogs, and foxes.

Yeah... it's sad though, but since it was humans fault that those foreign animals went there, humans must also take the huge and sad responsability to maintan the original balance of their environment... in your case... to kill the *poor* foreign animals that are in your country devasting your native animals.

Absolutely, its a shitty job. It makes me angry that I have to do this because other people were so irresponsible. Even today we still get idiots trying to smuggle exotic animals and plants into the country and brake out nations quarantine laws. To me its nothing short of terrorism to risk spreading exotic diseases to our agricultural industries and natural environment.

Yeah... I certainly wouldn't want to have a job like that to do... T___T I would cry so much... There are idiots everywere... and I had one living real close to me... My uncle, when he was in Africa, brought a monkey to our home... about 16/17 years ago... she survived until this winter... she started to have kidney problems and infections, and ended up dying from hypotermia, falling down from 2meters high *her hidden spot in her jail* with her head down... Although she was really feroucious and she hurted me seriously some years ago, I felt sorry for her bad luck...
