A city in the sky.
Total size of image is about A3.

The city was created with a series of random lines at right angles. Then I turned these lines into cubic shapes. In the 'corner' I got gradually more aggressive with the heavy black when I came back over the shapes. i just kept adding layers of black, cutting the original shapes into smaller and smaller pieces untill it felt right.

The composition was tossed together in half an hour, the rest was just hard slogg.

I am not sure what people mean by perspective in this piece. It was not planned as a perspective composition because it was always intended to be a space illustration and without atmosphere, perspective and scale are almost impossible to percieve.... in other words in space the perspective SHOULD feel wrong.

The right angle configuration of the 'city' is suposed to be intrinsic to its physical design and not an illusion generated by any form of perpective. As for horizon.... well 'orientation is probably a better term to use in space. The image point of view is looking 'down' towards the planet horizon, THROUGH the structure of the orbital city. So we are looking at the city from 'above'. The shadow play is complicated by implied light sources from within the city. Most of what we see in the image would be in shadow otherwise. Messing with the light values on the city is where I really cheated :)

It is all layers of pen and ink.... no pencil was harmed in the making of this drawing :D

I use micron pens for the detail, but I block in the black areas with much larger pens to save time. This piece took about 40 hours to do but I did it over two weeks which as a new record for me. The real trouble is getting an even black takes a lot of overpainting with then pens. i want to use brush ink in the future for the dark areas.

The image took about 40 hours over two weeks - very quick turn around for me. It was actually a very straight forward piece to do, but very labourious.

It is more mechanical than I would have liked because I stuck mostly to cubes in the city.... that was a little disapointing to me... but there is always next time

The cloud effects were created in photoshop.

This one is quite new. It is the first one I have put up that I started this year.

Thank you.

I have no problem with that interpretation. :)

It also works upside down because I worked on it both ways.
